Who is playing Shirley?

I am curious as to who is playing Shirley Valentine in the upcoming production?

According to the Old Mill Newsletter, Beverley Lawrence (the directors wife) is playing the part. Which was news to me as last I heard a lady named Kyla was sharing the part with Beverley. If anyone knows what happened to Kyla I'd love to know.

I've heard that the director stated in the audition notice that all canditates must be willing to appear nude? (not in the script)...........This puts all interested parties off..............so his wife gets the role............hmmmmmmmmm . a bit of nepotism at play perhaps?

Bev auditioned along with quite a number of others. True some did not want to appear in a nude scene (which is I might add VERY brief)
THere was to have been an understudy who would have taken some of the performances but it did not work out for various reasons.

Many months ago I auditioned for the part of Shirley Valentine and was asked by Gary Lawrence to 'understudy' the part,which I later found out had been given to his wife. Although I intially accepted this arrangement I later withdrew because I felt that (after 14 years professional theatre in London) I was equally able to play shirley, and was unhappy with the level of commitiment required to 'understudy' given the 2-3 performances I had been allocated.
I would be interested in playing this part in the future, and if anyone reading this is interested in directing it ( perhaps on a professional basis for us both) please contact me.
