Sex on Stage!

Okay, not really. Well. Maybe. I know that the Bridge Theatre prohibits offensive language, but I don't remember anything about sexual bans...

This Sunday plays host to the Annual ITA Finley Awards, staged for the first time at the Bridge Theatre in Northbridge (looks a lot like the Regal Theatre from the inside, but less expensive). The ITA Finley Awards concludes with a couple of quick award presentations at the end of the evening, but the preceding show is what makes this such a great evening.

The majority of the 90-120 minute show consists of excerpts chosen from some of the year's most popular productions. These include:

CABARET - lots and lots of gorgeous and talented ladies (and Jarrad West) dancing and singing unforgettable songs, clad in Terry Mcauley's finest lingerie. Reason enough for admission, but, there are seven other shows...

TOO FAR TO WALK - everyone I spoke to raved about this show, and it got great reviews on this webpage. I was on holiday during the run and didn't see it, but there MAY be sex scenes in it...

ONE FOR THE ROAD - didn't see this show, either (sorry, sorry), but it bodes well for unexpected sensuality...

THE BOY FRIEND - everyone knows this is too hot to talk about any further...

JACK THE RIPPER - errr, not a subject whom we usually associate with this topic, but, gorgeous costumes on those singin' and dancin' ladies of the night...

HABEAS CORPUS - an hilarious recent farce from Harbour Theatre (and purported allegory for their committee) where absolutely everyone is trying to sleep with everyone else...

ABIGAIL'S PARTY - a somber and insightful examination of marital disharmony in 1970's London...

CHICAGO - need I say more...?

If you've never been to the ITA Finley Awards before, or you went once long ago and didn't get home until Monday morning, be aware that the format is now sleek and streamlined. The show regularly runs for two hours and this year is hosted by two intelligent, attractive presenters (instead of the usual hack). I know some people have problems with (or downright hate) the Awards' judgment and selection process, but,as I said before, the real treat of the evening is the energetic and eclectic collection of production excerpts. Only $12 per ticket and you'll be home by 10:30. How can you not buy a ticket (9291 5045)???

See you on Sunday.
