I fully understand, that this web site is done out of the goodness of Grants heart (Voluntary), But with all the non-Western Australian requests for information is there a need to go NATIONAL.

The request for information alone must indercate that there is a demand for a superier theatre based web site
(build a Jacuzzi and they will come)

One centeral site with all the information that people need.

I am sure that there would be interested parties to invest to cover and costs or that annoying selling of advertising space.

Just a thought.

RE: Bring Theatres Together

The ITA web site has the potential to be a national site. Grant has ideas already in development that would allow a truly National site and it would involve little more work than has already been devoted to the existing site.

RE: Bring Theatres Together

I am now living in WA but am originally from Sydney and still have heaps friends there. Victoria already has a theatre website that brings all the latest to the theatre community theatre people.com.au The east coast has not just Stage Whispers and a new magazine feedback and a new sydney site web will soon be launched. They are swamped with theatre news over there and advertising dollars are very scarce! Open you eyes to the other side of australia people and you will find they have plenty of theatre resources.

-Well that may be the case, but having actually logged on to a lot of these sites (as I will be moving East next week) I don't think they are actually very good. I've found that the ITA website is definitely the best laid out and most accessible to a wide range of people.

advertising dollars are very scarce

-Since when was this website about money? Just curious what exactly advertising dollars have to do with anything?

Open you eyes to the other side of australia people and you will find they have plenty of theatre resources.

-If the Eastern States sites were so good, then we wouldn't have quite so many people from over there posting information on this site. If Grant wants to go National, I say more power to him. Go for it Grant, I look forward to being able to follow this site from Melbourne.

RE: Bring Theatres Together

The only problem with having information about plays and auditions from other states on 'our' ITA website is that it is time consuming to wade past all the information to find what is relevant to WA. Often, I see a play that I'd like to attend, only to find it's not in WA.

Perhaps we should consider a section for WA and another for the other states on the ITA website.

Other than that, Sir Grant does an excellent job.

RE: Bring Theatres Together

Yes I can confirm that Grant is intending to organise the theatre scene on the web-site into States so that you will not have everything jumbled up together. It all takes time tho!
However we understand that our illustrious Web- wizard is at this moment winging his way back home and will doubtless be onto the matter just as soonas Jet-lag (& Sharon) will allow him to do so!
Seriously, it's a great compliment to Grant & the ITA that our site is so well regarded 'over there'

I just have to jump in here and agree with Melissa. Some day soon someone is going to do a better job of building an online community for australian thespians, but i believe theatrepeople isn't it and i've not seen anything else anywhere in the world that's close yet. And if i did, i'd probably mercilessly "plagiarise" it.

I've spent a great deal of time researching online communities and the ITA site is modelled on the most effective examples i could find. But the key factor is a word in your last sentence: accessible.

Successful sites recognise that the 'net is a two way street. It's not just about providing people with access _to_ information, but assisting them with the means to bring their own information to light in a community forum.

Here's the crystal ball:

You can't really see it yet, but the groundwork is all there to make this national - some time early next year. With help it could be done much sooner. Is anyone interested in getting their hands dirty under the bonnet?

Cheers
Grant (just arrived back in Perth)

RE: Bring Theatres Together

Doesn't the www suggest that this site is not just national but world wide?
