AH....but this could be a trick question - it's also correct to say they're NOT related - because it depends WHICH Supergirl you are talking about!

The Supergirl of the 'Golden Age' of DC Comics WAS his cousin, Kara... from Argo City, which was somehow hurled into space (people and buildings intact) when Krypton exploded; and her parents sent her to earth in a similar way to Superman when they discovered they were all dying of Kryptonite poisoning in Argo City.

However this 'Golden Age' was already having an identity crisis. Many years of stories by various DC contributors had changed the story of Superman's origin somewhat, as well as enhancing or reducing his powers, until there were several 'parallel universes', with several conflicting versions of the same characters. (There was a series where 'Superman Blue' met his own image 'Superman Red'...)

In 1985, DC Comics ran a 12-issue crossover series called "Crisis on Infinite Earths" which was designed to reduce the increasingly complicated DC superhero multiverse, which featured multiple versions of the same characters on Earth-1, Earth-2, etc, into a single, streamlined universe with one, revised timeline. Superman's story in particular was to be simplified. The multiple Earths were merged and many characters died and memories of them erased in the minds of the survivors. History was retroactively rewritten, and while some characters who died were remembered by those who survived the Crisis, all memories of Supergirl's existence were erased. (She died heroically in Crisis issue #7.4)

The Modern Age begun by Crisis was a complete reboot. In this new version of Superman, a DC company mandate stipulated that Superman be the sole survivor of Krypton with no relatives or superpets. There was no Supergirl from Krypton in this universe, and no one remembered Argo City. Yet the souls of those who had existed pre-Crisis were not destroyed. Supergirl's spirit lived on, perhaps to be reborn in another form....
DC Comics officially relaunched their comicbook line and began revamping and reintroducing old characters into the "new" continuity.

A new Supergirl appeared just three years after Kara died, and in keeping with the revised Superman mythos, she was NOT biologically related to him.

So, who wants to be on MY table?

Craig

Ooh, ooh...

Big Merino in Goulbourn NSW (although there's another big sheep in Wagin WA)

Big Cheese at Bega, NSW (thanks Barking Gecko, for sending me to some weird places over the years)

Big Peanut at North Tolga, QLD (gotta love the internet for looking that one up)

Three out of three Craig !! Hmmmmm...I will have to take into account your extensive 'went there on tour' knowledge when it comes to formulating the questions. Can't have table 12 having an unfair advantage ....

Anyone want to form a table with the maestro?? I know for a fact he wont have any difficulties with 80's pop trivia.

Ok Mr Williams..an easy one for you. Born in 1970, who was the biggest-selling female singer of the 1990s ?

Benj

P.S. Did you know that stuff about Supergirl of the top of your head, or are you secretly having an affair with her?

1. Pretty sure it was Mariah Carey. Madonna's too old.

2. Have been getting into the DVD releases of movies of DC & Marvel comicbook heroes lately....the Christopher Reeve Superman movies (preparing for the new one coming up), the Batman movies (preparing for the new one coming up), Spiderman 1&2 (apparently 3 is soon to start filming), etc. Really getting into the 'Smallville' series about Clark Kent, for some reason it only screened for 1 and a half seasons here, but it's up to season 5 in the US.

....so, just happened to be the right question at the right time.

...And yeah, after she used her X-ray vision on me we started seeing each other, but I called it off because Wonder Woman got too jealous.

Yes, a bit unfair I know. I should keep the questions limited to events that will happen within our lifetime.

*ouch*

You been studiously studying I hope Craig. I expect big things from your table.

Glad to prove I could live up to your expectations tonight, Benj...although demonstrating my knowledge of Billy Joel to the room was possibly a bit dorky...

Happy to boast our Hoo-Haa table came 3rd. Congrats to the winners, and a big thanks to you guys who organised and ran the night. It was a huge turn out, and heaps of fun. Well done!

Hope it bodes well for Dealer's Choice.

Cheers

Craig, I bet you were also champing at the bit when asked to name the actors from St Elmo's Fire....ahhhh, youth. Where did it go ?

A HUGE thankyou to all who came along last night. The joint was packed to the rafters.

Thankyou also to all the shows/companies that donated tickets as prizes. The good thing about such an event is that is a chance to cross-promote each others shows, and create a sense of real community and commeraderie.

Yes, out of 27 teams (the marking room was an industrious picture to put it kindly), Hoo Haa came in 3rd but first for noise.

Second was the team from Frog Management with their super ring-in.

The winner was a table of 4 quietly spoken people in the front corner, all wearing dark sunglasses and false moustaches. We will never know...

Once again thankyou to all. Make sure you get to see all the shows that are going on around the place, and if you need to know ANYtHING about the works of Billy Joel, ask Craig.

It would strike me as unlikely that Mariah Carey has a seven octave range. A piano has just over seven octaves (88 notes; count 'em)- and I have not heard that the shrieking harpy can sing in the bass register. Ivan Rebroff comes close with his bass profundo-to-soprano gibberings, but even then he is probably coasting at only five octaves.

And frankly, considering the vile cacophony that the pus-filled wench creates, who CARES how many octaves she can reach? Maybe a couple of kelpies, but do they buy records? No.

I hope she dies... slowly.
