For those of you who got a lot out of the last event the Equity Professional Program brought you, THE CASTING COUCH 2003, and were wondering when the next one was arriving, it's here!
GETTING IT UP is aimed at giving performers, writers, designers, creatives, etc. tips on mounting their show in the most cost effective and successful way.
The format of the night involves 9 panellists and a Q&A time followed by informal drinks at the bar. The panellists are award winning playwright, Reg Cribb(The Return,Last Cab to Darwin, The Chatroom, Ruby's Last Dollar); production designer Nicholas Higgins; Naked Theatre Co and top Sydney theatrical agent, Liz Fell; publicity/marketing afficianado, John-Michael Swinbank; West Australian Arts Editor, Ron Banks; Hammond Insurance broker, Brendon Durrant; ArtsWA funding representative, Steve Shaw; president of the Equity Benevolent Guild and legal advisor, Jay Walsh; and the executive director of PACS(that's the Blue Room and Rechabites head honcho!), Jansis O'Hanlon.
Not only is the forum about "getting it up", it's also about "keeping it up"! The panel will give excellent tips, key things to do to work towards a stronger sense of what is actually involved in independent theatre production at all levels. Judging by the enthusiasm of the Q&A during THE CASTING COUCH not everyone's question will be answered in the allocated time, so why not join the panellists in the bar afterwards and keep the conversation flowing.
We hope that by coming together like this we can enlighten and propagate better and educated work practices to strengthen the artistry in all of us.
