The Alexander Technique for Performers

A 10 week specialty workshop series

The Alexander Technique is a simple, practical method for improving ease, freedom of movement, balance and coordination. Through economy of effort, a heightened more refined kinaesthetic awareness develops, inviting more subtlety and precision into the actor's work. Developed over a hundred years ago by a Shakespearian actor, from Tasmania, the technique is taught around the world at the most prestigious acting institutions.

"...the technique, which seemed at first inexhaustibly mysterious, turned out to be an accessible and most enjoyable discipline to learn and to practice. The many obvious benefits included minimised tension, centeredness, vocal relaxation and responsiveness, mind/body connection, and about an inch and a half of additional height." Kevin Kline . . . . .

Within this workshop series the actor will:
• Develop stage presence.
• Learn to differentiate the actor from his character, in order to more fully engage with character then return to self.
• Explore stage spontaneity, away from fixed reactivity.
• Develop a poised gracefulness in movement and an effortless uprightness.
• Learn to deal effectively with performance anxiety.
