To anyone that cares,
Hi, I'm fresh in the country and need some advice. I've spent the last 10 years working as an actor in the UK and I'm setting up a pitch to Sydney Theatre company's for a new project.
I'd love any advice along the lines of how does a new bloke in town set a play up.
The last 5 yrs I've been working with John Godber and The Hull Truck Theatre Company and the show I'll be doing will be heavenly influenced by what I've learnt.
I'd love to chat to anyone who basically knows the Sydney scene.
Cheers

Re: advice needed

Okay, I dont live in Sydney, I live in WA, i've recently moved over from WA to! To set up your play you'll need to get all the copy right stuff sorted out, book your theatre for rehersels and auditions and performances, get tickets done, auditions (you can post them on this site). Hope that helped!
Regards and I hope it goes well, good luck!!!

Re: advice needed

Um, yeah, don't forget insurance, getting crew etc. But if you're pitching to a company (for them to put the show on, instead of you doing it yourself), it may be a little different. I don't live in Syd, but I do suggest working out budgets, plans for the show, when to perform it, why, etc. It could also help if you performed some of it at the pitch - I know that's helped some friends of mine.

Re: advice needed

i have worked as an actor and director in sydney and know quite a few of the folk involved with the sydney theatre co. if you want some advice give me an email and we can meet for a coffee. i'm also aware of how things work in the UK, having just been there recently and originating from there, so i can probably translate the notions of different types of theatre for you.

Re: advice needed

Zach Lee? Not the Zach Lee who appeared with me in 'The epic of Gilgamesh', in Londons Covent Garden all those years ago??
Yes, that ground-shaking production directed by Stamatios Mesimeris and featuring such delightful turns as 'The wrath of Utnapishtin' or something like that!
Unfortunately I'm over in Perth but would love to get in touch anyway.

Welcome down-under!

Re: advice needed

Zach, you look younger in this review of Reunion: www.buxton-opera.co.uk/education/review.php?mp_education_id=11 than when you played Bertrand in Rules of Ownership. Is there an attic somewhere in Soho with your aging portrait?

IÂ’m up-over in Krakow, and IÂ’d love for you to play Bertrand here in late October. WeÂ’ve got a prime venue in the middle of the Old City, a guaranteed public of students, expats, tourists, and literati, and weÂ’ll be sharing the space with a photo exhibition (also on Narcissus) during KrakowÂ’s international photography festival.

If you turned up in mid-October for the last two weeks of rehearsal, and stayed for a three week run, youÂ’d be looking at five weeks in one of EuropeÂ’s loveliest cities. WeÂ’ve got a vacant flat within walking distance of the Old City thatÂ’s yours (and hers?) for the duration.

Even if you canÂ’t get away, it would be great to hear from you: eudaemon@interia.pl
