how to get into
Wed, 9 Mar 2005, 10:39 amI was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on how to get involved with a theatre group just to be involved. I love acting and want to be involved in something in Melbourne not as a profession even if it involves standing in the background doing nothing. I am 18 female and live in Melbourne. If you know of anything please tell me. Thankyou
Re: how to get into
Wed, 9 Mar 2005, 11:30 amThere are heaps of groups in Melbourne. You can start by checking the links on this site, most of the amateur groups are listed. Some good ones - Malvern Theatre Company, Camberwell Theatre Company, any of the musical groups such as MLOC, etc.
Try getting your hands on a copy of Stage Whispers, the amateur/pro magazine (if you have trouble finding it, try Borders), which has a classifieds section.
There are heaps of student productions that ask for extras in short films or co-op productions that require actors. You can find postings on www.rehearsalroom.com, or other theatre sites (Artshub is great for both professional and amateur postings).
Also, go to some classes, acting, dance, whatever. You'll find heaps of people in the same position as you.
I run a free weekly newsletter with Melbourne-based info on the theatre scene, so if you want to get on my mailing list, please email me. Please note, if you respond to this posting instead of emailing me, I will not put you on the list. I must have an email from you, due to spamming laws, that says you wish to be on the list.
I hope all that info helps.
