I've seen this site a couple of times, and I'd just like to make a comment.

Whether you want to believe it or not, I'm a successful actor.

Everyone here who's asking for a role: Stop!

Everybody who looks at your messages are just kids - there's no casting directors or agents out there looking at your messages.

Believe me; you're not going to get any work by posting here.

Go to any theatre you've heard of, and do lots and lots of shows.

Submit a resume to every theatre you know of, and make yourself known!

The truth is: 99% of all actors actually get paid/professional work.

It's unfortunately the truth, even it is sad.

But if you believe in yourselves, and you really believe you have what it takes, then go for it.

Re: For all people who want to act

I just wanted to make a little comment to yourself and a few other people who are getting tired of kids requesting acting information/roles etc.

This is a theatre site - when your just starting to realise that acting is what you want to do, as a hobby or whatever, why shouldnt they be able to interact with people their age, proffesional and non-proffesional for advice?

When your just starting out - it's true - you have no idea how to do it, so for all those kids out there wanting advice, keep it coming - I'm sure there are nice enough people here willing to help you out.

If I was putting on a production / doing a short film, this is the first place I would advertise for auditions etc, like so many other people do - (Hence - the 'audition" section)

Re: For all people who want to act

I have so called 'complained' about the amount of notices placed by kids. I have no problem with the posts themselves, or the interest and questions asked, and try to answer some myself. I think though, for all those people answering the questions, it gets repetitive. There should be a page on this site that answers all the questions in one go, so that kids don't have to waste their time trawling through previous posts for good advice, or have to have people posting back saying their sick of these posts. It might end a little confusion too.

Conversation is a good thing, but if we're all repeating the same conversation, it's not much of one, is it?

Well, you said you don't visit this site much, so it shouldn't be a problem for you then. Its not really your problem, so don't stress about it. If it irritate you that much then don't bother coming on.
Kind regards

Re: For all people who want to act

I only meant to say that it irritates some people. I come onto this site because it's one of the only Australian theatre sites, and has a lot of useful information - for both jobs and other areas. I search everything I can to find information for my friends and colleagues, as I run a weekly newsletter for them, and there is a lot of important information that is getting drowned. I try to help emerging artists, and I was merely pointing out that there should be a place on this site for emerging artists to go to where all the questions are answered. Many people ask the same questions, and it would save everybody's time if it were answered in one place.

Having said that, I do think that the discussions on this site are necessary, important and oh so valuable.

Re: For all people who want to act

I completely understand the point your making, but as you put that you donÂ’t often come on this site, I didnÂ’t see why you were complaining. Now I realize that it was merely a suggestion, and one I think that should be taken into account. Sorry if I offended you, I didnÂ’t understand the situation fully.
Kind Regards
Abby Nicole.

Re: For all people who want to act

That's okay. No amount of emoticons can make up for not hearing the way someone says something. Meaning is in the inflections!

Anyway, I recently started checking this page more often, after a lapse, having found that the information here can't be found elsewhere. I do however, delete my daily posts that I receive via email, and now only read stuff from this site that I am interested in.

If you have a subscription to ArtsHub, you should read my column, I go into a lot of reasons for the necessity of clear and concise (and easily found) industry information. There's heaps of stuff out there that nobody can teach you at school or at uni, because most people have already done it and don't have time to document it. Which is why the young aspiring actors/techs that post on this site are lucky, because they have people to respond to their questions.

Re: For all people who want to act

I am one of thoes people who when i first came across this fantastic site, asked the inevitable question -does anyone know of any auditions? one of the reasons for that question been asked, well MY reason is that i do not and for now dont want an agent so for all the agentless people out here, we need ways of finding auditions and this site is one of them. If you however or anyone else has any more sites, newsletters ect. please tell me about them it will be a huge help TA!!

Re: For all people who want to act

Unfortunately jen, most auditions are not posted anywhere - in fact, most entertainment jobs in general, are not posted anywhere - check the Age or other newspapers in their entertainment section. I'm a tech, so I mostly look at tech sites, but even then there are hardly and Australian sites that provide space for auditions and job ads. Like the rest of those looking to start, and those who have started, most of the jobs are gained from networking and word of mouth. And applying directly to companies and local groups.

One of the things that bothers me about the industry is that it is so secretive. People will tell you that that's what agents are for - finding work - but nobody says anything about those people who don't want an agent, or for us techs (as there are not very many agencies for techs).

Just keep looking, the information is out there somewhere.

Re: For all people who want to act

Hi Steve,

There are sooo many theatre companies in Perth, in the above section of this page, there is a COMPANIES section in Red, click on that, and then onto WA Companies. It lists them all, some of them have whats coming up/auditions, and even there own websites.
Take a look around and even email them, telling them your interested in doing some local theatre work, and ask what they may have coming up in the future.
Also, on the HOME page, check out the Audtions on the right - see whats on in WA, and what you may be interested in doing. They willl have a contact number/email, so go for it, and see what happens.

Re: For all people who want to act

Hi Jen,

I just want to mention something to you - whilst you may not want an agent as such, the reason that I have suggested to people to go to a modelling agency, is because they are the main source of "extra work" for television networks/locally produced films etc.
You dont have to pay them to represent YOU as such, just maybe join a class, and most of them still keep you on their books even if your not attending any more. (For extra work, you dont need to audition either, they have your picture, and the producer will just pick a bunch of them, and then your hired!!)

Its just a good way to gain a bit of experience (and a bit of money) to do mainly extra work.

But I do agree with what (na) has said.

Alot of theatre companies have regular newspapers, so you could subscribe to them for auditions etc, as well as check your local paper etc.
