re : professional payments - notice to all!!!

hello there,

just a quick note. if you are staging a professional production, or auditioning for a professional production, make sure that you check with equity - the performers union who will work with you to ensure you keep the highest standards of professionalism possible - so that you know what is the award rate for paying, or receiving payment, as a professional producer, or performer. also take into account the superannuation side of things as well as the public liability costs that may be incurred. it would be ghastly for someone to be injured and not covered by the venue and as a producer to be held to pay for something tragic occurring. this would go for crews as well, seeing as most worksafe guidelines involve you not dressing in black in the dark up high dealing with electricity dangling on a shonky ladder working quickly. anybody in WA who wants to find out more call the MEAA (media entertainment and arts alliance) on 08 9227 7924 which covers all facets of the industry including equity. anyone in another state you can call your local branch(see phone book) or the federal office (02 9333 0999). all the best in your endeavours,

michael mccall, freelance actor/director, equity member since 2001
