Thu, 5 Aug 2004, 01:18 pmHi everyone! I'm 17 years old and I really want to get into acting and I wat to find an agent but I'm scared of being ripped off! I'm not quite ready to go to university and do an acting course just yet as I want to get some experience up first... Would any of you be able to help me out and give me any tips??? I know some1 said before we need to get off our asses and do it ourselves, but I am just a little unsure... This website is a starting point for me and was recommended by one of my teachers...
Thanks heaps for your time and feel free to e-mail me at thespian_087@hotmail.com

Re: How does all this work??
Okay depending on what you want to do (theatre, screen) will help.
Say you want to do theatre, then phone up theatre companies (or look for any advertised on here) to ask if they are auditioning for parts.
Screen is trickier. A misnomer would be to go to a -uni- to do an acting course. NSW I am sure has plenty of screen acting courses, some of them method (yay!) for which you can easily get your skills up. You need to have the passion to undertake the courses if you really want to be involved in productions, and that is what it really boils down to. It is good to see you following up on your teachers' advice :)

Re: How does all this work??
check out auditions australian, brisbane audition, there is a magazine called encore publication about dance and theatre, if you are interested in musical theatre lion king has a website click on audition and pre register they then call you up when auditions come up. As far as agencies are concern if they charge you up front fees then be weary, i dont go with agencies that charge up front fees
