wanted: young actors/actresses, 11-15 years
Sat, 17 Apr 2004, 02:29 pmYour frustration at the lack of paid theatre and film work is understandable, but honestly posting more and more one paragraph statements requesting others contact you is not going to help, rather it will just conyinue to clutter up the board. Acting is a profession where actively hunting out auditions is necessary to gain experience and roles. Simply saying "I need a job -please help" after about 15 other people in the same situation have done so is only going to waste your time and others who boter to check these messages.
Why don't you kids do something proactive and join a drama class, create your own shows or call around personally to some of perths amateur companies who can almost always use an extra hand for sewing on buttons or painting the props. That way you might actually gain some contacts who WILL be able to help you find a role, or at least an audition in the near future.
Just my two cents.
Thou mangled swag-bellied lout!

I agree with Anna. Intead of sitting around on your bums waiting for something to happen, why dont you go out and MAKE it happen yourself? Look for oppertunities, go to auditions (it doesn't matter if you don't get a role - you've got the experience!), get some classes, or a holiday drama program. You'll only get what you want if you put in the effort. If you want to act kids, you cant keep playing lazy buggers. Get you butt off the sofa and start working. It's not easy when starting off, but stick at it and you'll get there.
That's exectly what I did.
OR.....you could listen and study hard at achool. Then you'll realise that you don't actually want to be an actor, it isn't easy or glorious, and you'll be good at psychics and end up as an engineer or something.
Or you'll end up like me. Studying acting at uni and trying to fit shows in around study timetable.

But I agree, but unfortunately initiative is one virtue lacking in our erstwhile young, especially when they expect everything on a silver platter. *sigh*
Re: wanted: young actors/actresses, 11-15 years
I'm 16, and auditioning as much as I can!
I even scored a job as a drama coach!!!
I do agree (yes going against my own kind!)
But it's a right pain when you see teens posting info about themselves as though some director/casting agent/producer etc is going to read their post and go "wow i want them in my musical cause they can type!"
If these guys are all as passionate as they claim to be GET UP!

Maybe not silver but bronze at least.
At the risk of there being no prize for second or third etc... I came to that exact same conclusion about most of the people where I currently work. Only trouble is many of them ain't that young, ie not teenagers. They lack the ability to analyse in a what if scenario, and the if I do this then what might happen as a consequence, and if it goes wrong then how do I get out of it without making it worse.

They have only looked at the blaring headline and not bothered to see what is actually being discussed.

Troy Dodds here - i'm the managing director of a Sydney based PR company, and have worked with a number of young performers over the years.
It's true, some of them are absolutely shocking (unfortunately for you Coloney, you're one of them) and aren't willing to have a real go at things.
But, without trying to throw credit my way, I have launched the careers of two theatre performers in particular, one of whom was 16 when we started working together. Her passion and commitment for what she wanted never waivered and could never be doubted.
The advice from Anna is right - get out there and do what you can, get off your backside and you'll be surprised at exactly what does happen.

Re: wanted: young desparte, lazy, actors/actresses, 11-15 years
Its hard to be an actor and no-one is a professional actor until you can say you earn the average salary of a office clerk. so stop complaining about how much you want to be an actor and concentrate on how you can survive in the world. Keep acting as a hobby. If you get a lucky break, then great, The only way you can get experience is by getting out there. Sponge off your parents as much as you can and get into community theatre. Get lesson and be pro-active instead of lazing around the house.
Every time you say 'IÂ’m bored' pick up the phone book and ring the nearest theatre and ask about the next play you can go see. Or get on the net and look for auditions, ring the people up and then go do the audition. There is no part to small not to go for. If you donÂ’t have the motivation to look for work you donÂ’t want to be an actor; you want to work at McDonalds, where the work is given to you.
So when you get shoved into the big wide world. So donÂ’t write down actor when you see "occupation:' write down what you really are, A lazy bum.
So if I see someone write on any message board "hi my name is blah and IÂ’m ** years old and I want work" you will get this message "Get off your ass and look for it"
Thank you for your time.

Always important to put on your resume that you can speak...!
But I'm not certain how many people are looking for a 'Preson', no matter how multi talent they are.

Max, I'm not sure what kind of impression you were trying to make....or really what on earth you are trying to tell us here... but you made me laugh.
>>I am going to be fifteen soon (my birthday is on February, 24.)
Almost exactly six months away! As far from your birthday as you can get! A new definition of soon?
Cheers,
Craig
