I'm sick to death of people clogging up this message board with stories of how to get started in our industry. I check this thing every day and it seems like it's all people talk about! How bout we leave all that crap for when someone actually asks about it? Perhaps then there'd be some space for someone to advertise auditions for a project, or as actors, just advertise ourselves. I have to say that for all you sad sad people who write essays in response to some of these topics...get over it because nobody really cares. What we care about is getting some friggin work which I thought (don't know about everyone else...) this facility was for.

Re: Money, Fame, and Acting

I don't really know what brought on your arguement about everyone typing out how to get into the industry. but i do agree and disagree with what you have said. I disagree with you ideas on this site being purely to get work off. Sometimes people need to talk to people that share the same hard times and problems with them as some people may not know many people in the same field as them. Also people that write you so called essays may actrually be trying to help someone else out which i think is great. I think that some people may go a bit to much into detail when they start talking about how they got into the field and so on, but if they need to get it out of their system then let them. This site is not purely audition based and should be used by everyone in the field in what every means they want.

Stop critisising people for helping.

You should essay to be tolerant

• I’m responding in point form, so as not to appear a sad sad essayist.

• You don’t seem to realise that just by writing your post, you HAVE advertised yourself…and you don’t come across as the tolerant type I would want to cast or offer work to.

• If someone doesn’t know something, they often won’t even know the questions they need to ask. Unasked for advice may often be a good way to learn something.

• You may be surprised to hear that:
• I know of several people who have attained some friggin work directly attributable to advice which they received here, unasked for, which they acted upon.
• I have personally attained some friggin work which was offered to me on the basis of the knowledge and literary ability I displayed in an essay I posted here…!

• To review what this facility is actually for, I suggest you re-read the first 6 sentences at the top of the home page.

• There is plenty of space to advertise auditions, advertise yourself, make suggestions, ask questions, give answers, promote an event, share an idea, discuss your work, debate the performing arts scene, write essays, or talk about how to get started in this industry…the message board is not getting clogged up.

• I believe in this era of short text messages, people are scared of responses that extend to more than a few abbreviated sentences. Two or three paragraphs is not an essay.

• On the occasions that I actually DO write an essay in response to some of these topics, I also know that I’ve been averaging more than 3 professional performances a week for 16 years, so I may be sickeningly smug, but I don’t feel sad sad. And if you really care about getting as much friggin work as I get, perhaps you ought to consider reading some of my essays?

• If you really read this thing everyday even though you’re sick to death of it and don’t really care, and yet still can’t come up with a positive way to contribute, I suggest you essay to get a life.

Cheers,
Craig
