Acting
Sat, 21 Dec 2002, 12:36 pmMy name is Steph,
I am 13 years old and i would absolutly LOVE to get into acting.
The problem is that i have no idea what to do or how to get into it without having to leave the country. I have only done a couple of acting workshops. And been in a few school plays, but what I think I need is a agent, but i'm afraid no one will want me and i'll never be able to get into acting. My family is not poor, but they arent rich, so....yeah. Many people have complemented me on my talent and that has made me even more eager.
If anyone can give me any information on any auditions in queensland or an agent maybe...i'll be very grateful.
Regards Steph

Hey Steph. My name is Giovanni and am an actor in W.A. Don't loose your enthusiasm mate because this industry is not at all forgiving. It will reward you but your need to put in alot of work to refine your skills as an actor. Your starting young and that is great. Keep going to those and other workshops.
Because you are under 18 your parents will have to be your gardien in everything you do. E.g sign contracts for paid work etc. So make sure they are on side and that they realise how serious you sre about this.
There are a number of websites to have a look at. One that I know of is the Actors Online website. Go to the Google search engine and you will find it. It is located in quensland.
The thing is mate you have to convince people that you can do the job better than anyone else that attends that same audition. So keep training and never stop. Get involved with your local amateur theatre company if there is one. Keep up with the school plays and always select Drama or theatre classes at school when you can.
You really have to immerse yourself if you want to get the most out of it. But don't worry. If you are half as enthusiastic as I am about working fulltime as an actor you will love every minute of it, no matter how hard it gets.
Remember to always train: Never stop training and try to go to as many auditions as possible. I am 34 and will be training to improve my skills for ever.
Do try and get yourself an agent but remember that your parents will have to be very involved.
Give it a go mate. Have fun at school and do some amateur shows in local theatre and then really look at some serious acting classes when you feel like you need it.
You have to become very perceptive to the things youneed to work on when developing your acting abilities and stye.
Good luck and I may work with you some time in the future.
Kind Regards
Giovanni
