Hi Liz,

I don't know of any good schools for teenagers, but I'd say stay away from any that offer short courses, such as 6 or 10 week courses. They tend to be not so great.

The best thing you can do right now is drama at school and part of your vce, look at singing lessons, voice coaching and some sort of movement class such as jazz or tap dancing (which are still very common for actors). The CAE in the city run some really good short courses, including some intro to acting ones. They are worth while.

The best thing to do is contact a local amateur theatre company (check out links for this webpage) and see what they may have going. If you live around Darebin, the Catchment Players have a pretty good youth section.

Apart from that read what you can. Another option is to look at private study. The London Acadamy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) have recognised teachers in Australia, and they come out here once a year for examinations. You might want to find out more about that, and study acting that way. LAMDA isn't recognised here yet, but it is in America and other places, and is slowly beginning to be recognised here, especially for theatre work. To be honest, the best training you can start with is theatre training. Its the backbone of all other acting.

I hope this is helpful to you,

Cheers, Michelle
