To all small/medium arts companies, community event co-ordinators and individual artists,

If you have renewed your public liability insurance premium in the past three months you will be aware of the dramatic increases that have thrown the budgets of many small and non-profit organisations into turmoil. If you haven't, it might be worth calling your broker for a renewal quote so you can budget for it.

The Financial Review reported Victorian National Party's Peter Ryan's comments that premium increases of up to one thousand percent could lead to the demise of many regional event and community groups.

Whilst the insurance industry is aware that public liability has become a widespread financial issue, the smaller producers do not have a whole lot of choice but to cough up for hefty premiums, because our media profiles and relatively small premium contributions don't carry much bargaining power.
But how many of us are there? And just how much of the entertainment industry do we make up? Plenty possibly.

So here's our opportunity to combine forces and be heard as a loud voice to have the issue investigated and regulated reasonably. I urge you to add your name to the list below and pass it on to all production companies, performance artists and community groups you can think of. If these premiums continue to escalate, the contribution that fringe events make to Australia's innovative and varied cultural scene could be seriously
truncated, so please make a contribution now and let's see what we can do.

Just cut and paste this whole email to a new message, add your details to the list and pass it on...

1. Marianne Fisher, Artistic Co-Ordinator, IHOS Opera
2. Werner Ihlenfeld, Production Director, IHOS Opera
3. Constantine Koukias, Artistic Director, IHOS Opera
4.

When the number of entries reaches about 100, please forward the list to info@ihosopera.com (for compilation and submission to the relevant government and regulatory bodies), and start a new list with your name in the number one space.

With thanks,
Kerri O'Donnell
