After Aida - cancellation imminent

The Graduate Dramatic Society's production of the Julian Mitchell play "After Aida" is in horrifyingly real danger of being cancelled, after the eleventh hour withdrawal of the services of our principal tenor, Rob, who has suffered a catastrophic personal trauma in his immediate family.

If there is _ANYONE_ out there who knows of a tenor who can sing half-a-dozen or so sustained B-flats, as well as learn, rehearse, and perform approximately half an hour's worth of light Verdi music (in English) within three weeks (we open on June 22), could they _PLEASE_ call or e-mail me.

This is a matter of urgency, as the last thing we want to do is shut down the production... we have a kick-arse cast, including five exceptional actors, four other excellent principal operatic soloists, a tremendously funny script, and a production that is shaping up extraordinarily well after several months of rehearsal.

On a purely personal level, I have had this script for eight years; this production brewing in my head for four years; and have spent eighteen months of lobbying and politicking to get the Grads committee to let me do it. It would be a tragedy if had to fold, particularly as it is looking so fantastically good.

The season is June 22, 23, 28, 29, 30, July 5, 6, 7, at the Dolphin Theatre, UWA.

It is a matter of the utmost urgency.

yours in eternal optimism,
David Meadows.
