RE: singing lessons
Tue, 27 Mar 2001, 10:20 pmGo to the relevant part of WAAPA (either the con if you want classical or jazz or the Music Theatre department if you want music theatre/contemporary teachers) and they will send a list of teachers to you or advise you of teachers in your area.
My personal bias of teacher - Lesley Campbell (ph. 9419 5552). It doesn't matter what style you want to sing she can teach *anything* and the best part about it is, unlike many teachers, she doesn't have a bias for classical singing. If you want to sing jazz or contemporary, she won't say 'OK' and then proceed to teach you classical technique anyway (although she can do that bloody well too, having been a principal with the WA Opera). She's studied all facets of vocal style to the nth degree, and is the only teacher in Perth who has put a lot of study into teaching a healthy belting style (yes, it can be done). She is a WAAPA music theatre teacher, but she has a private studio. This is her only drawback - her private studio is run from her home in Oakford (down Medina/Kwinana way) but I can't stress enough how worth the drive she is. She charges $43 dollars per hour.
If you want to read an even longer email about me waxing lyrical about Lesley you can email me on amanda_chesterton@hotmail.com
I've finished now. Thank-you.
