The Graduate Dramatic Society presents Julian Mitchell's wonderfully funny and clever play-with-music, "After Aida", opening in June at the Dolphin Theatre, U.W.A.

Five actors and five opera singers will join forces tell the story of the writing of Verdi's masterpiece, "Otello".

AUDITIONS will be held on Sunday March 18th at the Bradley Studio, U.W.A., 12-4pm.

All roles are featured roles, appearing throughout the entirety of the play. There are no bit parts in this show.

The roles are:

GIUSEPPE VERDI (60Â’s)
ItalyÂ’s greatest opera composer. A noble, dignified, stubborn man. Happy in retirement but ready to work if he feels the world wants it. Possesses an innate authority. Full beard, slim build.

ARRIGO BOITO (40Â’s)
a nervous, self-doubting, neurotic genius. Sometime composer, full-time poet/librettist. A gifted operatic wordsmith with a real artistic soul. Dapper, slightly overweight, with a large moustache.

GIUSEPPINA STREPPONI (60Â’s)
VerdiÂ’s wife. A strong, sharp, intelligent woman, wholly devoted to her husbandÂ’s best interests. A former soprano, she has endured much in her marriage, but is awake to what her husband needs, in spite of his protestations.

FRANCO FACCIO (40Â’s)
VerdiÂ’s favourite conductor. Can be infuriatingly vague, and even outright dim, but he is a prodigiously talented musician and a great friend to Boito.

GIULIO RICORDI (40Â’s)
VerdiÂ’s publisher and BoitoÂ’s good friend. A practical, urbane man, and a worthy successor to the Ricordi publishing empire.

Please call me, David Meadows (the director) to book a time.

cheers,
D.M.
