seeking info on amateur companies
Sun, 3 Dec 2000, 04:40 pmI'm looking to join an amateur theatre company which meets weekly, produces a variety of genres, focusing on original work written by company members, (but occasionally staging a classic) which is principally run by experienced actor/directors who are able to teach less experienced members how to be better actors (mentor or apprentice/journeyman/master system of teaching) which is *proffessional* in its approach to actors, audience, promotion and which puts the profits back into the company to buy equipment in order to stage better productions.
I would start one myself, but I dont believe I have the experience or the time to do an effective job.
does anyone know if such a company exists already? I have looked through the list attatched to this site, but cant see anything that fits the above description.
Regards,
Ashryn

RE: seeking info on amateur companies
Hello,
I just read the Classified that you left on the ITA web site.
I too am looking for a company along the lines of what you have written. If you do get a response to your message regarding any such companies, I would be appreciative if you could forward the information.
Regards,
Jamie Owers

Our company: "Ovations Edu-tainment: specialise in the innovative medium of Interactive Theatre and a workshop will be starting in February.
While we are not necessarily quite what you were envisaging, we certainly meet most aspects of what you are looking for - although in a non-traditional form of theatre.
Our workshop is listed as an event on this site if anyone inetrested or e-mail me for full details.

A tall order, but we almost fit the bill, with the exception that we don't write our own.
The Old Mill Theatre, established 50 years, is very professional in its approach to all areas of theatre and all profits go back into the facilities and equipment which are currently undergoing a gigantic renovation process, with untold hours of voluntary labour from many superheroes.
We produce six shows per year in a wide variety of genre with 7 weeks between productions, so there is always "a show on, or in rehearsal".
We are also the home of the Stagecraft Guild, an all round theatre educational body which recently held its first workshop with plans for one per month in 2001 (see other messages in this forum from Joe McCabe).
So, anyone interested in join our exciting and not so "Old" theatre is welcome to contact me for a membership application form at: binksr@sbdc.com.au.
Subs are $10 Active, or $5 Newsletter mailing list.
