Auditions - Elizabeth
Tue, 7 Nov 2000, 12:17 pmYeah, I know I should post this to the auditions page, but I 'm having problems...
AUDITIONS - Sunday November 26, 1:00pm
Darlington Theatre Players
Marloo Theatre, Greenmount WA
March 2001 Season
Elizabeth: Almost by Chance a Woman
(Quasi per caso una donna)
by Dario Fo
Translated by Gillian Hanna
Directed by Paul Treasure
cast (2f, 6m)
Elizabeth, Queen of England. The play takes place after the death of Mary Stuart, so the character s at least 55 years old
Martha, Elizabeth's maid
Dame Grosslady, Elizabeth's physician, a "gigantic woman", played by a man
Egerton, The Chief of the Secret Police
Young Man, must be willing to appear in various states of undress throughout the course of the play.
Assassin, the Young man's father
Two Guards, non-speaking roles
Italian playwright Dario Fo is a renowned authority on the Commedia dell'arte and an active socialist. A potent combination that has led him to create a style of theatre that mixes astute political analysis with hilarious slapstick and which earned him the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1997.
This play, which Fo describes as 'A Forgery', is set in the bedroom of Queen Elizabeth I. Driven to the heights of paranoia by her guilt over her involvement in the death of her cousin, Mary Stuart, she sees conspiracies around her everywhere, except where they actually exist.
This will be a very energetic production, and some parts will require a great deal of agility.
People with knowledge of or experience in Commedia are strongly encouraged to audition.
