Dance Venue
Thu, 21 Sept 2000, 01:05 amI need a bit of help. I run a full-time dance studio and I'm looking for a decent venue for our dancing conert at the end of the year. We would need a stge of decent size, probably to fit up to 20 very mobile children at a time, and a seating capacity of about 200. I have previously hired the Marloo Theatre but have outgrown it, unfortunately.
I'm willing to use Halls, school auditoriums, anthing!
Can you suggest anything?
Oh, by the way, I'm located in the Hills, but anything eastern suburbs will do

RE: Dance Venue
Why don't you try the Sport and Rec Centre, which is the Calisthenics Club's, in Midvale as the theatre in there is usually used for Dnace comps and is very good, also consider Private Schools, ie Penhros, Perth College and St Mary's as they all have fully equipped theatre's which they hire out, I'm from Sth of the river so I don't know many Nth of the river places sorry. My dance school always hire's the Burswood, and before that the Concert hall! Which are excellent venues as well! I hope this helps! Goodluck!

RE: Dance Venue
Re venues -
Yes we have the details about most of the Schools and colleges that have wonderful venues, but the costs rule most of them out for anything the ITA do.
Believe me we do look very long and hard at most of these beautiful performing arts centres but they all charge virtually commercial rates, most of the costs relate of course to staff wages, and as our 'events' are weekend ones as a rule the cost skyrocket.
It is of course undestandable that the managers of these places need to safeguard their equipment etc and as well there are certain safety regulations in place so they are not totally the bad guys!!

Venues
In addition to being a theatre director and youth arts consultant, I am also the Director of Drama & Development Officer at Helena College - a nondenominational, private, secondary college in Glen Forrest (that's near Darlington) in the hills. The college has a modest but welcoming Performing Arts Centre, seating about 220, with a raised performance area, green room, lighting and sound facilities etc. We would be happy to negotiate terms with the ITA re. them and other organisations using our venue. We would also be happy to negotiate fee structures dependent on budget size - we do not have a flat-rate structure in place. The Performing Arts Centre was not designed as a money-making enterprise, but as a focal point for community development and as a community resource.
So, if you can entertain the thought of travelling to Glen Forrest, then give me a call on 92989100 at the college and let's talk about possibilities.
Take care.

I'm looking for venue info
Hi Jamie
i am attempting to get a grant to pursue creating a production of my own, incorporating dance and theatre.
What would be the costs of hiring your schools performance space, if say you knew that the grant maximum i could get was a once off $5000...
I would only require it for the evening hours for a once off performance, and approx four hours for a rehearsal session at an earlier day...
This is until the grant money is mine, only hypothetical quotes, but greatly appriciated as a real quote could assist supporting my write up and make it sound more convincing...
So if you have a few minutes in the next few days Id like to hear from you by email, gratefully, tanya_voges@hotmail.com

RE: Venues
Jamie, I'm extremely interested in hiring your facilities for our concert. We are hoping to have our show on the 3rd of December(Sun) with around a 7pm start. The show will probably take around 2-3 hours. If at all possible, we would like to have a dress rehearsal on Sat 2nd of December at around 10am. These times are flexible.
If this is okay, would it be possible to come and have a look at the venue soon?
Looking forward to your reply,
Donna Williams
