Community Opera
Thu, 3 Aug 2000, 07:02 pmMy operatic ambitions continue to roll on.
With "Mozart & Salieri" (by Rimsky-Korsakov) now spectacularly cast and soon to commence rehearsals (as a one-act, it will feature at both Bunbury and DramaFest), I am taking the next step, which is...
To call for preliminary expressions of interest from anyone who wants to join me in starting a community (amateur) opera company, with the express goal of making opera as accessible as possible to the broader community (ie: regular punters, and not just an elite). This will be achieved primarily by performing in good, creative, (read: accessible) English-language translations, and by being sensible and not 'too-clever' with our productions styles (a mission statement and list of principle objectives can be e-mailed upon request).
The company will most likely take the form of an incorporated association (board, fee-paying members, and appointments for General Manager, Artistic Director, and Music Director).
The niche is there, and if we start small and stay modest, it could last longer than previous attempts by others.
Call me: 6380 1576 (yes, that _is_ a six at the start! Please do not call 9380)
or e-mail davidave@bigpond.com.
cheers,
D.M.

David ---
We have spoken recently and you have left me a message on my machine, to which I could not reply as your phone no. was unclear .
As I have just gone on to the internet, I thought I'd investigate my options and thankfully with some success.
Please feel free to ring again (mainly weekends) for further discussion.
Regards,
Gloria Underwood
