The Graduate Dramatic Society is planning a series of workshops, named the Green Room (no relation to the message board here!), on a wide range of theatre-related topics.

The first in this series was held a few weeks ago around the anniversary of Shakespeare's birthday. It was largely a social occasion but included a few fun games, activities and a quiz. There was also a prize for the best Shakespeare-related object. The winning entry is worth describing here.

Long standing Grads member, Michael Louis, arrived with four small pieces of paper with three, six, nine and twelve inches written on them. His Shakespearean objects each required a brief explanation.

Michael held up the paper labelled three inches. "Much Ado About Nothing" he told us. Next he held up six inches. "As You Like It", he assured us. Then nine inches, "A Midsummer Night's Dream". Finally, twelve inches, "The Taming of the Shrew"!

Similar fun and frivolity can't be guaranteed at the next Green Room session, but you can be assured of the best efforts of Green Room co-ordinator Rosemary Longhurst and her small team of workshop facilitators - including yours truly!

The next workshop will be on the topic of Developing a Role about approaches to acting and characterisation with more than a passing nod to Mr Stanislavisky and a few caustic remarks courtesy of Mr Mamet.

The Green Room will take place on Wednesday evening, 17 May at 7.30pm. The evening is free to Grads members with a nominal contribution of $2 from others to cover the cost of a tea and coffee.

The venue is City West Lotteries House, 2 Delhi Street West Perth.

Please be prompt or you may be locked out!

Cheers
Grant
