Looking for help for my little girl

Hey all , this was the first hit i got for ' how to get into theatre ' :) so hi. What i am looking for is some advice for my daughter (12 years old) who is desperately wanting to get into acting/theatre/drama.She is in her first year of high school and is not having any joy when talking to her drama teacher or other teachers about where to start.Of course she does drama at school but it seems they have little interest in furthering her aims. She is very hands on and extremely out there / can immerse herself into anything she has an interest in and extremely creative. What are the places i can approach for her to get into any sort of theatre /drama projects? She lives out near Burpengary with her mum and i am in Sunnybank(i am her dad btw :) ) This is not a phase for her as she has been interested in film/acting etc since a young age and would hate to let her interest go unfulfilled. Any help or advice would be hugely appreciated. Cheers

It sounds like your daughter has a passion for this beyond fluff, fun and Saturday morning babysitting type drama games classes. If your daughter is serious about wanting to be an actress, then it is imperative she receive excellent training from the get go. Goodness knows it is really hard to find good young actresses so if she can be trained up well at this young age she will be one of few and able to corner the market. Sending her to any old local community Drama class is dangerous as it can lower her expectations of what 'professional' means, it can also create a whole lot of bad habits from frankly, sub standard teachers, that will frustrate her as she gets older. And will need to be ironed out if she ends up going to a proper tertiary drama school. If she is serious about wanting to pursue her skills beyond that of fun, then I recommend that you send her to a NIDA Open Program, which should be running in your state during the school holidays or constantly through the term on the weekends. These tutors are all graduates, work professionally as actors and teach a structured and professional syllabus.
