Kittens have 9 lives... and each life tells a different story
Kittens of Woodlake is a low budget, indepedent film set in Perth in the late 1960's.
It centres around two best friends, Julia and Sara, who grow up together in a strict boarding school.
They befriend the other Cabaret Girls when they join as entertainers at a late night Jazz Lounge in the small town of Woodlakes, and soon realise that there is much more to life than school and an education.
Kittens of Woodlake was filmed in Midland Perth WA in 2010 - with a cast of over 60 actors, including Barbara Marriott and Stephanie Wilson in the leads, with supporting cast including Sjaan Bosman, Rhian Kate Glossop, Sarah Lumsden, Julie-Anne Freissbourg, Alyson Walker, Emma Raine Walker, Zaneta Van Zyl and Sandy Marwick as Sophia, the eccentric owner of the Kittens Club.
The films soundtrack is filled with local and interstate Australian artists such as Perth's own jazz singer Nicola Milan, Kynan Tan and The Vice Chancellors, Mace Francis and The Hounds, John St John, Bridie O'Brien with Roly Skender and The Tonics.
With a filming schedule of just 7 days, this self funded indie film is a first time effort for Lynnette Morley, who wrote, produced and directed the film, along with Christopher Darby - DOP and Cinematographer, Stewart Morley - Assistant Director, and Michael Weston who assisted during filming and post production. Teniele Arnold choreographed the Kittens Cabaret dancing and Jodie Marah offered her professional hair and make up services.
Locations will be familiar to Perth audiences, with iconic buildings such as Alfred's Kitchen, Chapel Farm and Jane Brooke Winery, the Midland Town Hall and Midland Junction Arts Centre, the Budget Motel and Commercial Tavern, Whiteman Park's Bennett Brook Railway and Guildford Grammar School just some of the locations part of the films setting.
The Official Premier will be screened at the Midland Junction Arts Centre on Friday May 27th.
Tickets are $15.00 and can be purchased through TAZtix.com.au ($+BF applies)
