SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION --- YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

In less than a week I take on perhaps the most challenging role of my theatrical life to date. More so than directing children in a period comedy. More so than trying to control three of the most over excitable young ladies in the world of Perth Community Theatre (you know who you are). More so than tackling Andy Fraser's whirl-wind sword choreography in Romeo and Juliet. More than repeated attacks from Internet Trolls!!!

Zastrozzi, Master Criminal and the Bringer of Destruction is about to hit town in Melville's first season for 2011. Dark and brooding, Zastrozzi is obsessed with revenge. Pursuing the delusional and comic Verezzi, he has wasted three years of his life and now things are about to come to a head. The final battle is about to begin. Swords are being drawn and damsels are being raped. Well, not actually raped, seduced really, but the intention is there.

I play a small role, that of Zastrozzi! Me, the definition of the Foppish Character Actor, playing a dark and brooding man of evil?!?!?! This could end badly.

*giggles* I think I know who the three young ladies are. Sisters for the win! For those who know Jeff, this is truly a very different role for him. And the evil director has been rather ruthless with stamping out the fop.

Oooo look. Someone pretending to be me. I'm flattered. Wouldn't the theatre be a boring old place if the same shows were done over and over? Zastrozzi - inspired by a Percy Shelley novel of the same name. I will assume we have all heard of him. Written by George F. Walker. Nope. I hadn't heard of him either. It was last seen in Perth a few years back as a PIAF presentation by Black Swan. I guess they thought it was worthy of a showing. How about "Thanks Melville for putting on something I haven't already seen five times"??? If not, I'm directing Don's Party in July... www.meltheco.org.au
