I thought I'd let my fingers do the walking and post an ad on here for Police uniforms. We're searching for fancy dress shops that stock reasonably authentic London Bobby uniforms (circa 1980 and present day styles). If anyone can recommend a stockist, or if a theatre group has some, and they'd consider having them out on loan we'd love to hear from you. cheers Johnny Grim

Police Uniforms

The G & S Society have police Uniforms that were used in Pirates of Penzance. I know they also hire out costumes. They have a website. Also Melville may have a couple. Good luck

the Bill summer uniform

You could go for their summer uniforms of a white epaulette shirt, black tie & trousers. Except you would need to make up a set of black epplaulette with siver plastic numbers & a couple of white cloth tabs to hold the radio transiever hand piece.

You can also tart up any suitable peak cap with a black 'n white checkered hat band & cap badge.

Rather than the 'Bluebottle' helmets of the beat 'Wooden tops' cops, which was a wooden dome base to the orginal military helmet design.

Nah, we have a bobby hat,

Nah, we have a bobby hat, but it's a fake looking plastic one. You're welcome to look when you get the grass. www.meltheco.org.au

cop's helmet

I have a genuine, cork lined helmet (would fit a small head) that you can borrow, but don't ask how I got it!

Still looking?

I made a woman's bobby uniform set in modern day for the Class Act Prod of Loot earlier in the year if you're still interested. It consists of a short white sleeved shirt with dark epaulettes and a silver button, black pencil skirt, bobby helmet with the correct badge and a wide check necktie. Took me AGES to find the fabric for that one - I'm very picky.
