Actors & ASMs required for promenade theatre performance, Brisbane / Gold Coast

Actors & 2 x ASM / Runners needed: For a promenade children’s performance in Roma Street Parklands on 12th – 14th June Giving 6 performances over the long weekend, this is an opportunity to work on an outdoor production for kids in the beautiful surroundings of the parklands, performing to the Bank Holiday crowd in one of Brisbane’s busiest public places. ‘The Magic Garden’ is an original production, a modern day fairytale with good and evil, Kings and Wizards, with spectacular visual effects and a bit of magic along the way. This is the first Promenade Theatre piece to take place at Roma Street Parklands, and the first Australian stage production for Spangled Aura Productions. The show runs just under an hour and will be accompanied by lighting and effects by Multi Image Productions. At this stage, the job is unpaid, however we have funders interested in giving a grant to further develop the show, with the possibility to perform on the Gold Coast and take the show to Fringe Festivals. At this stage, the roles would be either fully paid or profit-share plus expenses (including travel and accommodation for performances outside of Gold Coast / Brisbane). CAST AND CREW FROM THE ROMA STREET PERFORMANCE will have first refusal of their role for any further paid production of The Magic Garden. Rehearsals to be arranged when convenient for cast. Experience of working on children’s shows is desired but not essential. ‘King Rudolph’ – playing age 35+ Male. Regal but kind and fair. ‘Princess Faye’ – playing age 16 – 25. Female. ‘Bob’ – playing age 18 – 30. Male. Down to Earth guy who lives in the rainforest ‘Jack’ – playing age 18 – 30. Male. The palace gardener. ‘Storyteller’ – age 18+. Gender not important. Someone who keeps the audience together, makes sure they don’t get lost and stay on the path. Must be able to improvise and work with children. Singing / musical instrument and dance, acrobatic or circus skills would be an advantage. 2 x ASM / runners – age 16+. To help set up and pack down each day (3 days), operate some simple sound and lighting (training will be given), take photos of the show (camera can be provided unless you prefer to use your own), etc. May suit students interested in theatre or events work, or photography. Gold Coast based performers and crew preferred for funding reasons, but people from Brisbane are also welcome to apply.
