Is the makeup used, or just

Is the makeup used, or just the 'case'? Cause if it's the former, isn't that somewhat unhygienic? (And therefore... ew!) Your source for handmade shadow puppets at Puppets in Melbourne

Blind

FYI...my mum went partially blind in one eye from sharing makeup back stage at a show (yes that is the 100% cause). So just be careful when sharing makeup. *off my soapbox* Sky

This is why I asked. I had

This is why I asked. I had a short component in makeup at uni and pretty much the first thing we learned was about hygiene and how shared makeup can lead to illnesses. Which makes me think either the OP mistyped/wasn't clear, or they don't know much about OH&S. Your source for handmade shadow puppets at Puppets in Melbourne

So, genuine question here from someone who knows...

...zilch about such things. What is the deal with professional make up artists and their kits? They would be using the same products on countless different people & presumably hygienically/safely, or else they'd be out of a job? So how do the 'pros' do it? There must be a way? Maybe the OP is a professional make-up artist and knows more about it than you are suggesting? He/she is advertising a "PROFESSIONAL" kit after all..... Just wondering....

I am not a makeup artist,

I am not a makeup artist, but I suspect it's done the same way we did it at uni: for every performance, we'd buy new makeup. Not kits, but if we needed a different kind of say, eye shadow, then small packets would be bought. Those would be labelled (so we knew who was using what), and then kept for later use at the end of the show (ie. so that we didn't have to biy new makeup per student unless necessary). Of course, I studied at Swinburne and we had the makeup students (different course) help us at every major production, so it's likely I don't have the complete story on what occurs to the kits. I do recall distinctly though, having to pay out money at each production for new kits. (I tried to find my notes from uni, of which I've kept everything, but there appears to be none from makeup classes... hmm, wonder why that is...) If you've ever seen one of these kits, you'd know what I meant. The eyeshadows, etc, are actually very tiny, what you'd have in your purse if you were going out and didn't want to carry a lot. It means you can easily exchange used products for new. You must also remember that a makeup person would be charging for not just their services, but any expenses: which would include any purchases of products for their kits. (Which is why it can get expensive) Your source for handmade shadow puppets at Puppets in Melbourne

Some Makeup hygiene...

A lot of it is common sense. You ask people if they currently have any illness or are sensitive, and hopefully your makeup artists are doing these things: Using hand sanitizer on themselves and cleansing clients face before applying makeup. Products should be transfered onto a sterilized palette and then used with a clean brush. No brush should touch a lipstick, mascara, etc. A sterilized pencil sharpener is used each time on pencils. Disposable mascara wands and tools are used per person. Disinfecting brush cleaner used in between clients and things such as Face powders are dry and therefore do not grow bad bacteria as quickly as wet products so are safe for use directly on skin with a clean brush. Disinfecting makeup spray can also be purchased to spray onto makeup before putting away.

Thanks Anna!

I figured there must be a way of using product safely from the same container on more than one person. Haven't had my makeup done professionally often, but did vaguely recall them using product from containers that had clearly been used before.

Can you please email me

Can you please email me pics? In regards to the earlier comments, I studied makeup and it ALL make up artists use same make up!! Its all about cleaning, and sterilizing brushes and washing hands, and never using the actual applicators you usually get in the compact.
