Hi Guys, Looking to see if anyone knows of a place I can but safe breakable props, such as glassess, etc. We are shooting a Bourne style fight scene and would like things to BREAK! :) We are in Melbourne. Any ideas? Sean.

No need to purchase. One of

No need to purchase. One of our regulars, Stephen Dean, recently posted on his blog a recipe for sugar glass (also fake blood, as you can see by the link below): http://theatretechgeek.wordpress.com/2009/09/23/bleeding-on-cue/ For breakable furniture, I once worked on a show that pre-cut the legs off a chair, and then inserted carefully placed long tubes of (uncooked) pasta into small holes. The pasta acts as a temporary joint, and so long as you're very careful placing the chair on set, it holds the furniture together until time to 'break' it. An actor can then knock the furniture over, etc, and the legs 'break' away. It's cheap and easy to reset; just make sure to actually break the chair/whatever the first time around - using a saw will make it lose its realism. (you may also want to check the 'similar entries' box on the right hand side of the page, seems there are some other forum threads on the topic) Alternatively, I'd check around various special effects companies. I'm sure you'll find a few in the Yellow Pages. Puppets and patterns at Puppets in Melbourne

Small suggestion

Small suggestion...if a bit of furniture or door needs to be broken and it has panels replace them with balsa wood (ie: doors often have four inset panels, a person could put their head through one of them if it was balsa wood in relative safety). Or replace a broom handle with balsa wood and then break over other persons head. Have you gained the services of a stunt person? They should have some ideas. Above all you want your performers to be safe... "Life is too short to stuff a mushroom"
