Auditions will be held at 144 High St Prahran, Building PE Room 202 this Monday 22nd June from 9AM-11AM. Please contact our Producer Lani Kingston, at lanireneekingston@hotmail.com for a copy of the script and an Audition time.
Morning Star:
-------------
Morning Star, set in the turn of the 20th century, in a small coal-mining town, revolves around the main character Ida Edminson, who’s husband passed away in a coal mining accident two years past.
The story begins when a stranger, representing a fully grown angel, wanders into town from an unchartered dirt road. Instantly the town goes into shock, which turns into anger, when they cannot understand his presence or his motives.
IDA, however, in a turn of faith decides to take the stranger in and take care of him, when know one else will. And though she believes that she’s doing this as an act of kindness and faith, there is a part of her on a subconscious level, which wants him there for her own personal benefit. Since the passing of her husband, Ida has been living in a pretty dark place, where she has pushed away all the people she was close to and has simply repressed all her feelings of anger and resentment from the sudden loss of her husband and has now found herself in a sort of limbo where she is conflicted between two strong opposing desires; and that is a desire to be selfless and a desire to be whole again. These two desires come in conflict with one another with the presence of the ‘angel’, who brings all these repressed feelings to the surface.
IDA’s son EMMETT is then introduced to the story, when he returns home for a couple of days, from working on a cattle farm up north. EMMETT’S character, though he only appears in the film briefly, is there to magnify the change in IDA’s behaviour, as her emotional decline is key in suggesting her ulterior motives for housing the angel in the first place.
After failed attempts at conversing with the angel, and escape attempts on his behalf, IDA is finally pushed beyond breaking point and as a result the very thing she feared most is inevitably the thing that saves her.
Work is unpaid with some expenses covered, but is excellent exposure and fantastic portfolio work as the film will be screened at ACMI (Australian Center of the Moving Image) late November 2009, as part of Swinburne Film and Television Schools Graduating Exhibition. From this the film may go on to the local and perhaps international festival circuit.
Principle photography is scheduled for 2nd-5th of July 2009. Featured extras will be required for one day only. Shoot will be fully catered for, and accommodation will be provided.
