Jagdish Ji is a 7 minute short film about the struggle of a 26 year old man to find his place in the contemporary world. No longer surrounded by the, at times, suffocating culture of his family and his past, he is reluctant to embrace his new life and the foreign culture which surrounds him. Jagdish’s relationship with the places he inhabits – his home and his cab – reveal his new life, filled with routine, to disguise an ever increasing sense of loneliness and alienation. When he’s tested by a group of youths he meets in the early hours one Sunday morning, he has a decision to make. Jagdish needs to reach out and grab life. And so he calls Samuel. I am currently casting the following roles: Jagdish (LEAD) – 20-30 year old male of Indian (or similar) descent. Samuel – 25-35 year old male 3 Youths – 18-25 year old males who are out for a night on the town. The film is my final work for UTS Media Arts Project and shooting is scheduled for late April. As a winner of a 2009 Kodak award to support independent and emerging filmmakers, the film will be shot on 16mm Kodak film stock. The film is intended for output to a range of short film festivals, both nationally and internationally. This is unpaid work. However it is an opportunity to work with a great cast and crew and meals and a copy of the final film on DVD will be provided. If you’re interested and would like a copy of the script, please send through a headshot and CV to clare@designquarter.net Auditions will be held early April.
