i'm in thomastown, a 30 minute train ride to the city. i go to school in the city so i'm there alot. now can you "point me in the right direction" ?

Yes! I have a friend who lives in Thomastown, so I know a bit about the area (I'm on the other side of town almost)... Best bet is to check out Darebin Arts - I believe they have a big section on their government website - which lists a bunch of arts groups in the area. A lot of theatre groups, pro and amateur, perform at the Darebin Arts Centre on George St, so you might want to check them out and see how to get involved ... or simply go and meet theatre people. Platform Youth Group is a fairly good theatre to join, I've seen a number of their shows. They perform at Northcote Town Hall. Also, if you haven't already, use the companies link at the top of this site to do a search by postcode. As for closer to the city, try volunteering for the upcoming Fringe Festival. You can work FOH, do hours that suit you, and that way you can see what's happening in Melbourne... also, you get to meet a lot of young up-and-coming groups that are like minded. Becuase you're 16, it's harder to get involved professionally, so check out what's on nearby school and see if you can do volunteer work. That's the best way to get your foot in the door.
