Casting Call for Horror Short Film

Synopsis

Six friends go on a road trip to a caravan park. On the way, they hit something, and get out to investigate. They discover they have hit a crow, and one of the boys hides it in one of the girls bags as a joke. On arrival, the girls discover the crow and discard it in the bushes. Later on that night, after they get intoxicated one of the boys finds the crow, and decides to throw it on the fire. He inadvertently inhales the smoke from the fire, which contains the spirit of the crow. After commandeering his body, the crow, engulfed by rage from the traumatic experience of dying sets out to exact revenge on those responsible. The teenagers then find themselves in a battle for their lives.

Short Horror Film to be filmed in the period of July - September, shoot dates not set as yet. Will need to be free for rehearsals (approx 2-10 different rehearsals will be required for most actors) for a few hours every few weeks over the next few months.

Shoot will take place over one week, actors will need to be available for the entire week if possible. Availability will need to be confirmed at Audition.

Require 6 main characters, outlined below. Acting experience is not essential, Actors will be selected on the basis of their performance at the Audition, not their past acting credits.

Work is unpaid, but is excellent exposure and fantastic portfolio work as the film will be screened at ACMI (Australian Center of the Moving Image) late November 2009, to an audience of a few thousand as part of Swinburne Film and Television Schools Graduating Exhibition. From this the film may go on to the local and perhaps international festival circuit. Some shoots will require overnight stays in regional Vic.

Accommodation for all cast and crew will be supplied, along with catering for the entire shoot. Transport to and from the location can be organized if needed.

Outline of characters:

GEORGIE Female, older sister of Zack, shouldn't look over 20. A quiet type, is on the holiday with ZACK as their parents made her go.

HAYLEY Female, blonde, cheerleader type, should look around 16 or 17. Is loud spoken, sure of herself, and in a relationship with JASON.

JAMIE Male, sensitive guy, should look around 17. Is interested in SARAH, and is the only one of the group to survive. Handles firearms in the film, so will need to have a clean criminal record.

JASON Male, jock-type character, should look around 17, 18. Is in a relationship with HAYLEY.

ZACK Male, jock-type character. Needs to be a relatively confident actor, as he is the one who is taken over by the spirit of the crow, and transforms into the murderer.

SARAH Female, should look around 16 or 17, will also be around firearms in the film so will need to have a clean criminal record.
