read through expression of interest
Mon, 9 Mar 2009, 11:54 pmHi, I am just trying to get a general idea of who might be interested in coming along to a read through, before i pick the night, book the space etc. The script is at full first draft point, and I mainly want to see what still needs work.
A basic synopsis of the play is as follows:
A group of friends are living together in East Perth (can be localised to the capital city nearest to the performance). They are all drug users, and live mostly off the dole. They are into the ‘club scene’ and regularly go clubbing all night, and relish getting “trashed”. They have a standing arrangement that the one who wakes up without a hangover buys the first round of drinks the next night. One night, Lucy overdoses and is taken to hospital, but dies not long after arrival. Together, the others make a pact that they will give up the drugs. On top of this they must each deal with their grief, and the other issues life has thrown at them. As a memorial, they decide to tell Lucy’s story for a magazine article, in the hope that it prevents other peoples’ lives from being wasted.
It is a musical, and contains songs by well known groups such as Bon Jovi, Greenday and Metallica. If anyone wants more information, just let me know, through this site, or on 0402041664.

Wow, it's great that Bon Jovi, Green Day and Metallica gave you the rights to use their music in your play!

Sounds good.....
I'd be interested in that one Luke, name the day! (and I'll bring along my APRA liscences in case Jon & company get testy about using their tunes - LOL)
Hey Freddie, dont be sarcastic and bag the guy for having an original idea, OK? (for all you know Luke may just have the rights.....)

performance rights
actually, as far as i can tell, it is just going to be a play reading, with some background music, that happens to coincide with where the songs are going to be in the play. I am going to sort out performance rights with APRA when i get closer to the script being ready for performance.

readthrough date
I have now set a date and time. Friday 17th April, at 2pm, at ECU Mt Lawley. We should be finished by 4 at the latest, so that will give us time to go to the tav afterwards.

Thanks for that Tony. Pity
Thanks for that Tony. Pity you're so far from Perth. But you never know, when i get the show up to performance standard, and get the performance rights for the songs -- which i have every intention of doing, Freddie -- it might get to Adelaide.
