Good singing teacher/school in Melbourne?
Mon, 26 Jan 2009, 11:19 pmHey!
I was wondering if anyone could recommend a really good singing teacher or school in melbourne that teaches specifically musical theatre style? I'm not looking to do a course as such i'm looking for like a weekly lesson type thing. If anyone knows of anyone they would recommend please let me know :)
Thanx!!

Can't think of any weekly
Can't think of any weekly lessons off the top of my head... but I'm sure someone out there does it. Why not try the CAE, ACOPA (Nth Melb), National Theatre, Swinburne or even VCA? There's got to be someone who does MT...

I am a VERY experienced singer (mainly classical) and was very fortunate in finding a great private teacher in St Kilda, Melbourne called Gary May. He is known here and teaches musical theatre style as well as classical style singing. In fact my impression is that he has more musical theatre students than opera students.
It depends on how serious you are about your singing. Gary teaches only professionals or near-professionals and his rates reflect this at $110 per hour. I had one lesson every 2 weeks after initially one a week.
If you google his name I think you'll find his website.
My singing has improved enourmously after one year so that's proof that his techniques work.
good luck
cheers
