Hello everyone, I am a theatre technician, LD, electrician and scenic carpenter. I have several years of professional experience working on shows in the United States. I'm looking for a full time entry level position in or around Brisbane (My girlfriend recently moved there) as an electrician or carpenter, although I am willing to work in another town if there are opportunities. I graduated university in 2007 with a degree in technical theatre. During university I worked casual labor for IATSE and as a freelance lighting designer and carpenter. I have been living in china the past year working in another industry. I am looking to get back into the performing arts industry and have been having trouble finding job sites and listing for the performing arts. Can someone either point me in the right direction or does anyone know of any job openings in either a theater or production company? I am also interested in paid internship opportunities. I am planning on arriving in Australia in late October but am able to arrive sooner if I have a job opportunity. I would really appreciate the help! Regards, Alex Owens

Although it's mainly aimed

Although it's mainly aimed at actors, some of this will help: http://www.theatre.asn.au/blog/na/looking_for_work_2 and this one will be more specific for you: http://www.theatre.asn.au/book_page/best_places_to_look_for_professional_theatre_auditions_and_tech_admin_work In particular download my list of links, you'll find a number of venues and companies in the QLD job hunting section. There should also be some links somewhere (you might need to do a search) on topics about coming from overseas; there's heaps of advice already given that will also apply to you. As for paid internships, you'll find that Australia doesn't work the same as the US - that is, there aren't any. We either have amateur roles or pro roles, but rarely anything in between. Additionally work experience here is usually saved for those who are still at school. With your background, you shouldn't have any problems presenting a CV to a venue and asking them if they have any jobs available. Finger puppets now on sale at Puppets in Melbourne

Check out &/or register

Check out &/or register with this site:- http://www.au.stagejobspro.com/logout.php
Being a sparkie in America, you would need to investigate on the requirements to be Licensed as an electrician. As each state has differing licencing policy, rules & regulations. To be able to work as a sparkie, in most cases you would need to prove previous training, learning &/or accreditations. So goggle for the Electrical authority in the State, you get a job in.
Paid theatrical work is usually centred in the Eastern States, such as Victoria [Melbourne] New south wales [Sydney] &  Queensland [Gold coast]. The other States have Sweet fanny Adams, as a rule of the black thumb nail.

Is anyone actually a member

Is anyone actually a member of Stage Jobs pro? From what I recall of the site (this is a few years back), I was unimpressed with the range of roles available. I'm not a member, so if anyone is, please leave some feedback of the site... It's also owned and run by an English company - which suggests they may not have any staff in Australia (online company sometimes = staff somewhere else in the world... trust me, I know)... The fact they only seem to have their English address listed and an email form would suggest the same. I recommend signing up with Arts Hub instead - although their prices have risen and their quality/quantity of jobs has decreased (because you now have to pay to list an ad, this stops many of the lower budget/fringe/amateur groups from listing; on the other hand, there's still heaps of pro jobs listed) Finger puppets now on sale at Puppets in Melbourne

I agree Na about  the

I agree Na about  the site, I'm glad you mentioned about it.They keep sending emails for me to enter a category, but I just delete them. So it's probably not a good piece of advice, as usual, on my part. I don't say it's dodgy, I just have strange feeling about it? Like one may get, when entering the odd theatre space at times.
