Put some art into it: artists needed for Fremantle Festival Lotterywest Street Parade (WA)
Wed, 6 Aug 2008, 10:57 amTHE City of Fremantle is calling for expressions of interest from artists who want to help with this year’s Fremantle Festival Lotterywest Street Parade.
To be held at 4pm, November 16, the parade is coordinated by the city’s festivals and events team with an emphasis on re-connecting with the local community.
City of Fremantle Community Development Officer Michelle Hovane said all groups across Fremantle and its suburbs were encouraged to have a say in the way they would like to see their city transform.
“Artists are an integral part of the Fremantle community and have been central to the parade’s success since its beginning,” City of Fremantle Community Development Officer Michelle Hovane said.
“We believe it’s an important and vital way for the artistic community’s vision to be strongly expressed.”
Ms Hovane said the city was interested in hearing from artists wanting to work with community groups and schools, as well as those willing to develop their own proposals, to create floats and other artistic works for the parade.
Brief CVs and a short description of creative ideas relating to the festival’s theme of “transform” should be forwarded to Michelle Hovane at cdo@fremantle.wa.gov.au.
“These will be then placed into a pool for consideration and matched with appropriate community groups,” she said.
“Funding will be allocated on the basis of submissions received and the total pool of money available.”
Deadline for expressions of interest is 5pm, Friday, August 29.
