Call for Actors and Musicians
Wed, 25 June 2008, 10:57 pmLooking for experienced actors and musicians for West Australian Premiere of Patrick van der Werf’s Presence.
Synopsis
Molly Kaufman is taking in a new boarder, Sam, a young man infected with a lust for life, dreaming of freedom and a car. Molly's son, Jake, has been witness to intense betrayal in his childhood; his mother is still a haunted woman. Penny, who is drawn into their lives, wakes up each morning to evil standing at the foot of her bed.
The lives of these flawed but lovable characters cross in the shared confines of the boarding house, while inhabiting the complex region of each other's inner worlds and fears.
Presence is collaboration by acclaimed Director, Bruce Denny, and Producer of So Frenchy Productions, Claire French.
In a West Australian Premiere, Presence is set to a soundtrack composed by a mini-orchestra made up of musicians hand plucked from rock, jazz and classical disciplines.
Production Dates
Rehearsals: 10 July – 17 September 2008
Performances (Mini- Tour): 11 and 12 September at First Venue then 18 and 19 September at Second Venue
These are paid positions, with a set fee negotiated at the beginning of contract
FOR ACTORS
Character Brief
SAM: 22-24 years, inarticulate young Australian male who, through lack of parental affluence and influence, struggles to find open mindedness
BOB: 50-60 years, has been with Molly in a share living situation for the past twenty years with heart problems and post- divorce bitterness
MOLLY: 50-55 years, is a loveable and caring housewife with such an intense fear of loneliness that it supersedes her reality
JAKE: 26-30 years, highly articulate and manipulative young man who, despite the opportunities he has been given, lets the death of his father victimise him
PENNY: 18-23 years, solo wanderer subject to the huge emotional crests and troughs of her young years, she is still in time, neither progressing forward or reflecting on the past

Thursday 3 July, 7pm

FOR MUSICIANS
Seeking a wide range of instrumentalists with the ensemble chosen including cello, viola, violin, keyboard, guitar, percussion, flute, saxophone and french horn and expressions of interest from other fields encouraged
Audition Date for Musicians
