Shortfilm Auditions
Wed, 25 June 2008, 09:18 pmHello, my name is Warwick, I’m producing a 3rd year Curtin film called Lionel, and we are looking for actors for a variety of roles.
The film will be a visually stunning character study, exploring the state of masculinity in contemporary western culture, and the title characters’ difficulty to live up to the hype of his own existence. Written and directed by award winning young filmmaker, Keir Wilkins, the film is a drama with comedy born through the unusual perspective of the world we will create. Once the film is completed, it will be screened locally, and entered into national and international festivals.
The film centres on a children’s motivational speaker, Lionel, and his teenage son, Michael. Struggling to find his identity as a man in the late-capitalist, consumer driven world, Lionel’s consistent shortcomings further isolate him from his son and the world around him. A string of humiliating events leaves Lionel contemplating his lot in life, realising he will not be the rich, famous star he was promised he would be. Lionel eventually reaches breaking point and loses control in front of a group of school children, laying down the cold hard facts of life for them. However, it is through this break down that Lionel finally understands his place in the world and is able to connect with his son.
Whilst the roles are unpaid, all expenses and catering will be provided. We are shooting late September/early October for 5 days, specific dates yet to be confirmed. Only the title character, Lionel will be required for the full shoot with all other roles required for ½-2 days. The film will be shot with the latest HD Digital camera technology, and will feature some greenscreen special effects.
