HI everyone! My name is Emily, I am a student at University of Notre Dame, and in a crew of 3 others am about to film my screenplay "Poker Face". This is a short film, estimated to be approximately 3 minutes. This is a dark, intriguing story involving 5 players in a whirlwind bribery that leads to a high stakes poker game, where their lives are on the line. With Mafia undertones and a surprising and light twist at the end, this film leads audiences to be suspicious of every character. "Poker Face" has no dialogue so facial and physical expression is important for all the roles. The 5 roles are all male and between the ages of 30 - 60. Although if you are a little outside of this age range we would still love to hear from you. Below are the character descriptions, however these can be changed to suit the actor as we are in desperate need of participants as this must be filmed soon. This would not be paid for however, we are happy to supply you with a copy of the film for your personal showreel. If you are interested please contact me, Emily Potts, at flower_potts7@hotmail.com Joe Thompson – A robust looking middle aged man. He has not aged well and looks older than his years. As with the other characters he gambles and is a talented poker player, often taking part in high roller games. As a professional bookmaker Joe is surrounded by crooks and is very protective of a certain secret. Joe has yielded to the affections of a younger mistress although he is ‘happily married’. Alan Swartzer An older gentleman, who dresses immactuatly with a slightly enlgish flair. He has made his fortune from being a partner in a major stock market firm. Always perfectly polite, Alan is somewhat snooty and looks down on the lower class. He is unmarried and gambles often with his millions particularly in poker games. However, his money was not earnt honestly. Alan embezzled money from the firm without being tracked down. He knows that his lifestyle would fall apart if he was to be found out. Danny Costello Danny is a 45 year old man, small in build and appears academic. Somewhat of a loner, he is a clever and courteous man. However he has a short temper and does not handle stress well. Although a hopeless poker player he has become addicted to the risky game throwing his savings down the drain and leaving debts in every city he goes. He continues to try and win it back but is terribly paranoid that someone will make him pay the ultimate price. Frank Rossconi A big time mafia player. He was brought up in a family of crooks and naturally was forced to follow suit. He moved up the ranks of the mafia quickly and is known for his ruthless behaviour, often bribing innocent people and instilling fear into men. He plays high roller poker often and has a knack for cheating. However his opponents are too scared to confront him as he may take drastic measures. Frank Rossconi is only 35 and yet the police have been after him for 5 years already. He is a medium build and holds an initimidating presence. The Bodyguard Certainly the most mysterious character in this film. The Bodyguard is a figure that does not seem to have a personality until the end when he reveals his true identity. He is an undercover cop posing as Rossconi’s bodyguard. He must be believable till the end shocking both the characters and the audience when he reveals that he was waiting for the right moment to arrest the criminal Rossconi. This character needs to have a taller, larger build.
