Great to hear you are interested in knowing more about the internship. The placement is unpaid as we a re a not for profit organisation. We are a certified training institution and so can offer to work with your university if your course has a contract or internship unit. But having said that we have had interns who become involved in the placement for experience alone, and Fresh is an experience. I guess the main things we need to know and you need to perhaps be aware of is that we work with young people at risk. We work on the principles that positive engagement I theatre and performance is a self esteem and self awareness building activity. We perform two seasons a year one in July and the other in November. We also run a camp in either September or December. (probably December) We have three theatres one in Rowville, Box Hill and Doncaster. Part of the selection process involves your preference to which location you would like to work at, however we do try and match interns with theatre directors so that their skills compliment each other. So I guess the stuff you really want t know is what does the theatre intern do? Well. For all intents and purposes the theatre intern is the season Director. The intern is not referred to as an intern to the young performers but as the director. The intern is responsible for the creative implementation of the script. You would have a great deal of creative freedom however we do have restrictions budget wise and etc. You would work with the Theatre Director and the Production Co-ordinator (Amy) in putting the vision of the show together. Interns are also required to assist in warm-up activities and bump-in, bump-out. We are a super fun team though, a bunch of really talented and passionate people who love young people and theatre and their communities. Interns are by no means left out to dry they are well supported by a feedback process and pastoral care co-ordinator (Janet) this is aimed at creating an effective learning experience for all. If you are interested in applying for a 2007 internship position, send me your C.V. including performance, directing, personal experience as well as a short application letter and include any experience you have had working with young people. Thanks for looking us up and I hope to hear from you soon. Shaz Mullens – Fresh Program Director
