Hi Alex, You may want to
Hi Alex,
You may want to join the ALIA (Australiasian Lighing Industry Association) at www.alia.com.au. Their membership does cost, but you can join their forum for free.
Showtech Australia are always on the look out for techies, though naturally if you are still in school or uni, you will have to consider time commitments.
My site - The Prompt Copy - advertises a lot of local and interstate tech jobs. Though you will be unlikely to find work at this time of year - jobs start picking up again in about Feb each year.
If you are really keen on getting in, you may want to try the Comedy Festival when it starts, as they always hire a lot of sound and lighting techs to run their venues and help out in general.
Try volunteering for local companies and festivals, venues (Gasworks for instance), and you'll be able to get your foot in the door for some paid work.
There's also a wide range of fringe jobs to be had out there, so keep your eyes peeled on this site, and keep networking to hear about them.
Good luck!
