Puppetry is the artform of the theatre that has often been highly disregarded and unappreciated by Australian audiences. In an attempt to expose the beauty of contemporary puppetry in the theatre world, a group of passionate artists/designers have decided to create their own unique brand of puppet performance based in Sydney… and we need your help!! We are looking for scripts from all states of Australia which incorporate a keen, enthusiastic approach in bringing puppets of every nature alive, either in a theatre space or for the purposes of developing a short film. It is your platform to be as creative, obtruce, rude, absurd, realistic, viseral, sombre, playful and entertaining as you desire. Furthermore, the style is up to you also – comedy, drama, tragedy, musical, abstract, expressionist, interpretive etc At this stage of our emerging company, ONE script will be adapted into a theatre performance and the other a short film. The chosen puppet scriptwriters will receive $150 each for their efforts, whereby one chosen script could mean the beginning of seeing your scripts being performed and adapted for a myriad of future projects meaning greater earnings. If you are unsuccessful in this round, we will keep them and your details on file, unless you state otherwise. Criteria • The script for theatre must be between 30-40 minutes in duration and the film script no more than 10 minutes. • You do not have to design the puppets…that’s our job. However, a brief description of each puppet to be utilised and designed by us is required. Do not worry about the degree of difficulty in construction, we have a superb creative team who can produce almost anything! Remember that objects, fabric, lighting, mixed media that can be manipulated by a performer is also considered to be puppetry. Think laterally! Suggestions for type of puppets – shadow, string, rod, hand, fabric, stilt walking human puppets, masks, light, binraku, object manipulation. • Must include at least 4 different styles of puppetry • Include your full details (Name, numbers, email, home address). Whether you have a puppet script lying around or a desire to create a newly adapted piece, experimenting with a different style, then this opportunity is for you! Useful websites for inspiration The Puppetry Homepage – www.sagecraft.com/puppetry/ The Old Trouts – www.theoldtrouts.org ERTH Visual & Physical Inc – www.erth.com.au Please send your original scripts to Matina Moutzouris at 41 Ritchard Avenue, Coogee NSW 2034 or via email at fonduepuppets@hotmail.com by 31st December 2006.
