Getting scripts onto stage
Tue, 29 Nov 2005, 10:37 amHi,
I am currently in the process of wrighting my first script. I was wondering what is the best way to get my script onto stage. I plan to act in it as well and I am not doing this for money.

Re: Getting scripts onto stage
Produce it yourself.
Sadly enough, competitions and local companies don't offer enough for local playwrights.
I recently wrote an article for Arts Hub (yet to be published if you go looking for it) on the emerging playwright, and everyone I talked to, from emerging to professional, said 'Produce it yourself'.
I'm in the midst of creating a program for playwrights, but if you want some help in the meantime, feel free to contact me.

Re: Getting scripts onto stage
Do you belong to a local theatre company? I have just completed writing my first musical play, and approached my drama club about them putting it on for me, and they have very kindly agreed.
I just asked them for a timeslot that wasn't in their two major production timeslots so that it is actually going on as an extra show for the club next year, and obviously royalty free.
The only difference is that I have offered to direct it rather than act in it. So - if you are a member of, or well know to any of the local clubs near where you are........try approaching them. I was nervous as a kitten incase they said no - in which case I would've had to do it independently, but nothing ventured nothing gained. It paid off for me and may do for you too!
