Beaumaris Theatre, 82 Wells Rd Beaumaris, is auditioning for “Steel Magnolias”, by Robert Harling. This is a brilliant play, set in Truvy’s Beauty Shop in the 1980’s. It’s the story of six Southern women who share their personal triumphs, tragedies, beauty tips, recipes and scandalous gossip! The centre of the group is a bride with problems and her mother who looks to her friends for strength and laughter as she battles her deepest fears concerning her daughter. It has wonderful, strong parts for six experienced actresses. Auditions for this moving play will be held on Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th December at the theatre. Please call Director Debbie Keyt on 9584 1526 for all information and to book an audition time.

Characters:
Truvy: Age 35plus. Truvy owns the Beauty Shop, a converted garage alongside her house in Chinquapin, Louisiana. Anyone who is “anybody” has their hair done at “Truvy’s”. Truvy is vivacious, outgoing, caring and has a great sense of humour. Must be comfortable to “do” hair.

MÂ’Lynn: Mid 40Â’s plus. MÂ’Lynn is the mother of the bride who loves her daughter dearly and wants only the best for her, especially where her health is concerned. She is a strong, stubborn and caring woman.

Ouiser: 50 plus. Ouiser is grumpy, meddling and opinionated, although a bit of a “softy” underneath - a fantastic character role.

Annelle: Early to mid 20’s. Annelle works for Truvy and at first is shy and withdrawn, then becomes more outgoing and then religious. Must have the ability “to do good hair”.

Shelby: Early to mid 20’s. Pretty, outgoing, friendly and loves life – desperately in love and desperate to have a child.

Clairee: 50 plus. Political, ambitious, wealthy socialite. Friendly and kind with a terrific sense of humour.

Re: Auditions - Melbourne

Hi,

I've only done a few school plays but i did a great southern accent for a streetcar named desire! I'd love to audition for Shelby.

Thankyou,

Amber.

Re: Auditions - Melbourne

There is still time to phone director Debbie Keyt to book your audition for Steel Magnolias. Deb tells me she has plenty of interest in the role of Shelby, but would like to hear from the more "mature" amongst you for the other roles. Phone Deb on 9584 1526 to book an audition time.

Re: Auditions - Melbourne

Hi i'm Tara, i'm 20 and think i would make a good Shelby or Annelle, have you had too much interest expressed in these parts, or am i still open to book an audition?

Re: Auditions - Melbourne

Please do contact the director for an audition time Tara. My point was to try to encourage actors to go for the other parts too.
