For the first time this year we are opening the doors to the general public so they too can experience and be witness to the amazing talent community theatre has to offer.”

gENERALLY THE NOMINEES...

[Damned Caps Lock!]

Generally the nominees are a closely guarded secret until the night.

I have heard many reasons for this.
The main one probably being that there is the chance that clubs and productions that feel they were snubbed would probably not show up in droves
:-)

Re: Cheap Finley Award Tickets

And if they *did* announce the nominees, they'd probably get more people as club members would more likely come to support those who have been nominated.

Re: Cheap Finley Award Tickets

Here here. I had long standing plans before I knew the date of the awards. However, if I thought our Theatre Group had a nominee I would make an effort to get back from Bunbury for the Awards.

Re: Cheap Finley Award Tickets

Let me just say...

The nominees are a closely guarded secret...
If you were out and about all year and watched all the shows imagineable, then you yourself would probably have a good idea on who is nominated...
It is sooo closely guarded, that the ITA Committee do not even know who has a possibility of taking home which award...
Our volunteer adjudicators have slogged it out all year, committed their personal hours, travel and opinions - for this wonderful night of nights...

IF community theatre could pull the crowds that we need not worry about numbers showing up to the Finleys, well then sure - let's announce nominations... as suggested by some, if nominations were announced, well then surely that too would also limit the amount of attendees from certain clubs (those lovely ego minded, self focused performers)...

We should really be attending to show our strength, our love for our craft, our club honour, to celebrate a mighty years work, and to support all our friends in WA Community Theatre... the majority of us, after all, share ourselves around many clubs...

We even have theatre friends flying over from Queensland this year to attend, and for the first time we are opening the doors wide and proud to the general public, so that we may all show off the wonderful talent community theatre possesses and hopefully generate a higher profile for 'amateur'.

We hope you will take advantage of the cheap tickets @ only $15 - this price cuts out as of Dec 31st, after that all tickets will be @ $22 and available only through BOCS Ticketing... 9484 1133 - www.bocsticketing.com.au - so contact your club now for your group booking - or contact Robert on 9490 6662 or mobile - 0410 647 490.

Cheers and may you all have a wonderful Christmas, enjoy the festive season, the New Year celebrations, keep safe and we'll see you at the 31st Annual Robert Finley Awards.

Re: Cheap Finley Award Tickets

I think they should announce them before hand.
Surely, the amount of people coming to support nominees would far outweight the people who would not turn up. Mothers, Fathers Partners etc.

Just my opinion. Announcement before the night is what happens at the Victorian Guild Awards and they never seem to have had a problem. People still want to see who will win - it's like our very own Logies... !!

Re: Valued Finley Award Tickets

Have some pride, Finleys! No one's going to want to come if you keep calling yourself the Cheap Finley Award..!

And your choice of MC sounds a little dodgy to me. I heard he played a cheap ukulele last year. What's he going to inflict on us this year?

Re: Cheap Finley Award Tickets

I agree with Tina, Jane and Tim - I'd go if the nominees were announced beforehand, highly unlikely I'd bother otherwise. Sounds like a poll coming on, don't you think?

Finley Award Tickets - Thespian Discount Ends December 31st...

maybe a flashy cabaret number?
or maybe a tap dance number?
maybe a strip tease?

hmm - who knows... all will be revealed (or not) on January 21st

Re: Cheap Finley Award Tickets

Melanie is unfortunately right If the nominees were announced, only the clubs who had nominees would turn up, and the other hundred or so people who normally come would probably not bother.
Also, the anticipation which is created from hearing all the plays and musicals entered for the year, cheering for your club or clubs and the camaraderie amongst all clubs experienced on the night is great!
On top of this, you get a fabulous night of entertainment, from some of the best or most entertaining shows around, plus see the amazing "Storm the Stage" youth. You will laugh, cry, hug and get pissed, all on the one night. You will run into old friends, and meet new ones.
The Finleys is not just about the awards, it is about being a statewide family of people who have the same thing in common. We all love theatre, and provide much joy and pleasure in other people's lives as well as our own! If we didn't love doing shows, there wouldn't be any amateur theatre at all.
An indication of how strong we are in WA is the fact that this website is West Australian owned and run.
We get the most hits around the world from a theatre website.
So come on guys, don't worry about if anyone you know has been nominated! Just get in there, get your tickets, and come join the party and celebration with other like minded, hard working, committed Thespians!

See you at the Finleys!
Love Chris

If other professional award nights can announce the nominees beforehand, so can the Finleys - oh, sorry, I forgot we're dealing with *amateur* theatre here...

Re: Cheap Finley Award Tickets

As my dear old mum would say, "if professional award nights put their heads in the oven, would you?"
Your argument has no logic to it Greg.

PS Sorry for saying "old" mum, but if the cap fits..........
