TALENT MAGAZINE

This is a review of a new Magazine that has been developed for Australian Circulation and deals with Australian Film, Television and Theatre. It is for Actors, Singers, Bands, Producers, Directors and Agents right across the Sun Scorched Continent.

I was fortunate enough to be sent an exclusive copy recently and I have to say, I am impressed beyond words. With a lovely glossy cover, this is not one of your half baked little rag-mags. There has been considerable thought and effort put into the design and layout.

For a first issue, this one is pretty good. You have an interview with Australian Idol Contestant Ricki Lee and MEAA member Jack Thompson, as well as several professional advice columns on topics ranging from Audition Technique through to 'Do I Need An Agent'.

The first issue is out now and the next is scheduled for release around the 23rd of Feb. With enough support, this could easily become the Australian Performers Periodical Bible.

For further details, checkout
www.talentmagazine.com.au

or contact the publisher Simon James on
simon@artrevenue.com.au
or s-mail
PO Box 5176 GCMC Qld Australia 9726

The mags themselves are $10 each and there are subscriptions available also (althought I do not know how much that costs ... yet) which I will certainly be looking into.

Track down a copy and ecce signum (behold the truth) for youselves.

The humble Thespian,

Re: Talent magazine is searching for ...

Just curious...

Jeff are you at all associated with the publication, or are you merely plugging it because you think it's good?

(No offense intended, I just want to learn more about the publication. I really am just curious)

Re: Talent magazine is searching for ...

I am not associated and am just plugging it because I think it's good.
I heard about the mag sometime back and started nosing around to get any more info. The states and UK have Industry Specific publications that are virtual bibles to performing professionals and there really has not been a similar type production available in Oz. There are a few great mags about such as Stage Whispers and so forth, bu tI have yet to see a good quality, Oz mag that crosses the bounderies between Film, TV, Theatre, Bands and Modeling (and probably more besides).

Talent appears to be a professional attempt to fill that gap. I was fortunate enough to receive an advance copy and for a first issue I honestly have to say that I was blown away. You can almost feel the effort ozzing off the pages.

The publisher and creator of the mag have been very forthcoming in their hopes and plans for the mag that I do feel (in a small way) a part of this endeavour, but I am in no way affiliated with the company, and no offense taken. ;-)

It is a good mag and it holds huge potential.

Aude sapere

Re: Talent magazine is searching for ...

Happy to hear that you are so inspired by the magazine.

I completely agree, there needs to be more publications out there for us 'talented' people (although I may not necessarily agree with the way this particular publication).

If you take a look at the American 'Backstage', and the UK 'The Stage Online', you can really see where we are failing in terms of online/hardcopy publications for the theatrical world.

I personally can't stand Stage Whispers, as it is too much aimed at the amateur performer. And since I am a professional techie, it doesn't really thrill me.

Guess that's why I started my own publication...
