If you love theatre, and are a student or recent graduate, then this position will suit you. This job is ideal for a theatre worker or student to give their writing skills a go. Publishing experience not required, just a passion for theatre. This is a brand new position, with room to grow.

The Prompt Copy is a three-year old publication dedicated to networking emerging theatre professionals. The publication is an ezine (sent via email) every week for free. We cover jobs, auditions, classes, funding info, competitions and submissions, and much more. Currently our information is Melbourne-focused, but we are developing interstate, and even internationally. We recently launched our website (www.freewebs.com/thepromptcopy), and are in the process of upgrading the content of the zine. We currently have 100 subscribers, and are growing the readership constantly.

There are two members: Editor and founder, Naomi Guss, and Sarah Breen, Marketing and Development Manager. Naomi will be taking care of placing ads for auditions, jobs, competitions, classes, funding, and events, as well as running the website. She will also oversee this new position, and ensure that the articles are relevant (both Sarah and Naomi also write for the zine on occasion). Sarah is developing the marketing and publicity; creating space to sell for advertising, and promoting the zine itself.

We need someone who can take on the content side of the publication, writing articles and sourcing other articles or information to publish. This can involve a number of things – writing a personal column, doing investigative writing on a current and important issue facing the industry, reviews, or other writings. This is a perfect opportunity to learn more about the professional theatre industry, make some contacts, and is a great practical learning experience on the whole.

Job description
- You will be writing investigative feature articles on current industry topics, once every two months
- If you have the time and are so inclined, you can have your own personal column, reviews (show, book, tool, etc.), interviews, or other writing opportunities
- You will be assisting in resourcing articles from other publications
- You will assist in resourcing and maintaining other writers, including columnists
- You have the opportunity to run our advice column
- You will have the opportunity to assist in other Prompt Copy events and activities, including providing direction for the development of content, business plan, marketing and publicity, the development of a large industry event

Unfortunately, we have no funding and no real budget as yet, so payment will be limited.

Payment
- you will be paid $15 for every feature article you write (no more than once every two months)
- Or you can receive payment via a membership to Arts Hub, QuietOnSet, or another similar arts resource
- If you wish to do reviews of performances, we can cover the cost of the show (other reviews may need to be negotiated in terms of costs)
- You will also (obviously) be able to add published writing to your CV, and the opportunity to apply for jobs, auditions, competitions and funding listed in the zine
- negotiations can and will be made in future when we have enough advertising and marketing to pay you further
- You will be asked to sign a co-op contract containing a detailed job description (that we have negotiated as your tasks), and there will be a three-month trial period

Requirements
- You must have the desire to work and learn within the theatre industry
- You must have the ability to write well, clearly, concisely, and passionately
- Willingness to learn and to be directed
- You must have Internet and email access, as most correspondence will be via email
- You must be able to commit to our timeline of publication (even though we publish each week on a Wednesday, we would create specific deadlines for you to submit work). The work can easily fit around other work or study requirements, and you would not be expected to do more than a few hours per fortnight
- You must live in Melbourne, and be available for regular meetings (say twice a month)

Contact
- For more information about us and the publication, please visit our website
- Contact the Editor, Naomi Guss, at the_prompt_copy@yahoo.com.au (marking email as ‘Content writer’), with a CV attached and a cover letter discussing your reasons and goals for this job, plus 3 examples of your writing each in a different style
- A copy of the latest issue of the zine can be made available upon request
- All applicants will be notified of the outcome
- Closing date 11th November 2005

Other
- Please donÂ’t expect this role to be your sole dedication. This is a team effort, and all work done on the zine is in our spare time. We expect, and recommend, that you have other pursuits and projects to work on
- We will not be hiring someone with no interest in theatre. While this is a writing position, you must, first and foremost, have a dedication to theatre
- While we will offer support, information, advice and supervision, you must be proactive and take responsibility for your activities from month to month
